Our parks and gardens awarded Gold Status

Bankside Open Spaces Trust’s parks and gardens picked up four awards at London in Bloom on 21st September 2023. Southwark’s Red Cross Garden and Tate Community Garden were both recognised as excellent green spaces with a Gold Award, while Crossbones Graveyard and Waterloo Millennium Green both received a much-wanted Silver Gilt.

The London in Bloom Awards are a mark of quality for parks, gardens and green projects and celebrate the role of green spaces within London’s local communities.

The judges visited our spaces back in July, enjoying a guided tour and meeting our staff and volunteers too. With a particular focus on sustainable parks management, these awards really celebrate how we maintain our urban green spaces and are a tribute to the hard work our parks team and volunteers put in.

These latest awards add to our Green Flags awards for excellent public park management granted to Red Cross Garden and Waterloo Millennium Green earlier this year. Our work at Mint Street Park with Southwark Council also received a Green Flag again in 2023. Our Southwark parks have also been shortlisted for a Britain in Bloom award in a partnership entry for greening the Bankside area with local BID Better Bankside and Southwark Council – our fingers are crossed for the announcement on this entry later this month.
