Bulb planters big and small!

From tiny snowdrop to great big daffodil bulbs - under the clay soil of Waterloo Green 600 spring flowers are waiting to bloom. And it’s all thanks to our bulb planting volunteers, who just like our bulbs, are big and small too!

On Friday 18th October we welcomed groups of children and adults down at Waterloo Millennium Green to plant hundreds of bulbs. The children kicked off the day with a family gardening session, organised by the Family Volunteering Club. This cheerful bunch of pre schoolers and their carers enjoyed digging in the mud and meeting lots of wiggly worms as they popped their bulbs in the ground. We then welcomed children from Leo’s Den Nursery and Year 6 from Oasis Academy Johanna who really got stuck in to the flower beds around the new insect sculptures.

Later in the day it was the grown ups turn with people joining us for some lunchtime gardening. Snowdrops were the order of the day and soon the existing shrubs had plenty of company from these tiny bulbs. The day was wrapped up with a cuppa and cookie or two.

Huge thanks goes to all those who helped and for funding from the Greater London Authority - Greener City Fund. We can’t wait to see your 600 bulbs turn Waterloo Green yellow!
