Growing and graduating with Future Gardeners

Ten keen gardeners entered the horticultural workforce last Friday 9 November as our latest Future Gardeners graduated. The Garden Museum provided an apt backdrop to our graduation event and speeches from The City of London’s Jake Tibbetts and Bankside Open Spaces Trust Chair Tim Wood further inspired our budding horticulturalists.

It was wonderful to share the trainees’ success with our partners the Worshipful Company of Gardeners, the Royal Parks Guild and Walworth Garden, and a packed house of supporters. The current Master of the Worshipful Company of Gardeners, Margaret Clarissa Holland Prior JP, presented students with their certificates. All 10 achieved a City and Guilds Level 2 in Horticulture from Walworth Garden and are now all looking for jobs in the industry.

Future Gardeners is our free 10-week horticulture course designed to get people into the industry. The course is particularly aimed at those who have been out of work for a long time, or who have struggled to access training or education.

The applications are now open for our next round of Future Gardeners, which will start on 16 January. The course is completely free and runs over 10 weeks part time. No previous experience or qualifications are required and you could be eligible to have your travel costs covered. To find out more and apply click here.
