Edible Bankside

Edible Bankside is an environmental project started in 2010 to enable local residents to grow their own food close to home, in one of the most built-up, densely populated parts of London.

The programme was set up and run for a number of years by BOST staff and volunteers, involving residents on social housing estates in SE1 to build new gardens and raised beds. This initiative has now been handed over to the local residents who continue to grow their own food in the area on sites such as Redman Green,  Tabard Estate, Sumner Street and Park Street.

As a result of Edible Bankside, a large network of ‘Garden Guardians’ has been created across SE1.  These guardians seek to promote the initiative amongst their neighbours, with BOST providing support and guidance. With generous funding kindly provided by United St. Saviours, the Edible Bankside project moved forward into its second term, with gardening clubs and workshops held at 14 housing estates and other venues in SE1.
