About Edible Bankside

Bringing residents together to grow food on estates

Could we have chickens and bees on our estates? It will happen!

Bankside Open Spaces Trust (BOST) presents Edible Bankside. A plan to bring food growing to mixed communities in one of the most built up parts of London.

BOST staff and volunteers are involving residents on  social housing estates in SE1 creating new gardens and raised beds. We are working with tenants’ groups and landowners at Redman Green, Brookwood Triangle, Dodson and Amigo, Tabard Estate, Peabody Southwark Street, and Park Street to make places people want to linger and grow food.

Some of our projects include making raised beds for vegetable growing, planting trees, and handing out window boxes and plug plants to residents. But the most exciting part is involving residents in designing and building their own gardens – we always try to knock on doors to make sure everyone who would like to be can get involved, and we run monthly family gardening clubs at each site, as well as a host of events to enjoy the space, share recipes, harvest food and celebrate our stronger communities.

Edible Bankside has a small amount of resources to give out, but the biggest imapct is through the dedication of our knowledgable staff. Talk to BOST to find out more.
