Nelson Square

Children's play, beautiful trees and a rose garden.

Step off busy Blackfriars Road into the calm of Nelson Square, enjoy the shade of the huge plane trees, and play equipment, then rest on a bench in the rose garden. As you do this, be thankful to the team of residents who work with BOST to maintain, look after and steward this beautiful square, as well as the gardens we have developed together on adjacent housing land.

Nelson Square was originally a gated garden square, for rich residnets to enjoy but out of bounds to the poor. In 1902, following campaigning by the Metropolitan Public Gardens Association, it was gifted to the people of Southwark and has been a public park ever since.
