Bankside in Bloom

Bankside Open Spaces Trust’s Head of Parks William Rallison with Better Bankside’s Eliza Daeschler and our Britain in Bloom award!

Bankside Open Spaces Trust’s Southwark parks and gardens contribute to a Britain in Bloom victory.

On 23 October 2023, Bankside became a Britain in Bloom winning area as joint entry to the Royal Horticultural Society’s national gardening competition from Bankside Open Spaces Trust, Better Bankside and Southwark Council, won the 2023 Urban Community category.

Shortlisted for Britain in Bloom

Just 44 UK community gardening groups secured a place in the finals, held on Monday 23 October at The RHS’s Lindley Hall in London. Judging took place back in the summer with judges Richard Budge and Teresa Potter exploring our Tate Modern Community Garden, Crossbones Graveyard and Red Cross Garden alongside Better Bankside’s street planting and Southwark Council’s Bankside parks, including Mint Street, which is also cared for by Bankside Open Spaces Trust.

Britain in Bloom Silver Gilt winning open spaces

The Bankside entry was awarded a Silver Gilt and has now been given the accolade of Britain in Bloom category winner. The award is testament to the hard work of Bankside Open Spaces Trust, Better Bankside and Southwark Council’s parks teams and gardeners. We would also like to thank our dedicated volunteers, who give their time regularly to keep all our green spaces in award-winning condition.
