Help a park
Active Steering Groups support our parks into a better future. We need new members to help with tasks like raising awareness of parks safety issues, agreeing design for new paths and railings, dealing with problems and responding to new ideas and bylaws. We particularly need people who are very local to the parks.

If you would like to receive Steering Group mailings, please let us know which park you are interested in and give your name, address and email.

If you are able to attend occasional meetings of your park Steering Group, please say which time of day is best for you.

Help with a donation
Every bit of extra financial support helps us in our work. Even a small donation could buy a pair of children's gardening gloves or a few packets of seeds or support a volunteer with boots or travel. Larger donations could contribute towards whole new projects.

If you would like to make a donation, please make your cheque payable to `Bankside Open Spaces Trust' and send to BOST at: 5 King James Street, London, SE1 ORU.

It's easy (and free!) to increase the value of your gift: If you send us a Gift Aid declaration, we can claim back the tax you pay on your donation. If you work for a larger business, you may find it has a policy of matching staff donations of time or money to charity - do ask your employer.

Help with your time
Giving  your time can be rewarding, fun, fulfilling, inspiring, informative, sociable, healthy and challenging.

BOST needs volunteers for occassional half days or a regular commitment, at weekends and during the week. We need help with gardening, administration, leading children's clubs, supporting events, and guiding and welcoming visitors.
Contact us to discuss the following more.

Gardening volunteers: No experience is required to help in the greenhouse, Red Cross Garden and the open parks with tasks like raising seeds to grow flowers for the parks, digging over hard ground, mulching to improve the soil, turning the compost heaps, pruning roses, shrubs and herbs, weeding, maintaining the ponds, watering with the hose, planting trees and shrubs, collecting seeds and planting bulbs.

Administration volunteers: We need help with data management, mailouts, reception, minute-taking and other tasks at the main office and at Red Cross Garden. If you are able to make a regular commitment and have a little computer experience and a good telephone manner we would be pleased to discuss how we can help you expand your career opportunities, and help BOST functions.

Volunteers with people: If you enjoy talking to people, are responsible and reliable, and are able to pass on ideas and facts, you might take a role as a volunteer tour guide, warden or children's leader with BOST.

Tour Guides and Wardens are needed at Red Cross Garden to help interpret the historical experience of the restored garden here. BOST will provide training in the information needed and the best way to pass it on. In return we ask for occasional help at weekends.

Children's leaders are needed to support staff running our children's gardening clubs, particularly on Thursdays and monthly Saturdays. Could you make broad beans interesting, wield scissors safely, tie knots, encourage creativity and laugh at jokes you last heard when you were eight?

Business volunteers: BOST can provide one-off gardening projects for groups of corporate volunteers, but we prefer to set up a longer relationship with individuals and groups from our local supporters.

If you are interested in volunteering but can't help regularly you could come to one of BOST's big one-off gardening events which we run throughout the year.

BOST also runs special workshops and events for schools and community groups, and an after-school club for children.
