Helping Green Deserts Grow

Brookwood Triangle

Brookwood Triangle is a much admired small productive garden, which has won awards from Southwark in Bloom, and London Green Corners for the way it has brought people together. We are currently working on a new fruiting hedge, and have put two lovely butterfly benches in to help residents and volunteers feel comfortable.

The garden was created over an intensive weekend in 2007 out of a partnership between BOST, the Tate Modern for the Global Cities Exhibition, artist Fritz Haeg for his Edible Estates project, and local people for their own community. It is still a wonderful showcase of how with the right support, a community can be mobilised to share their resources, and overcome barriers to get to know each other. Watch the video of how this first happened here.

Find it on the corner of Webber Row and Lancaster Avenue, SE1. Funding support was kindly provided by Better Bankside and Southwark Council's Cleaner Greenr Safer. We are grateful for ongoing and practical support from Southwark's Housing Department who own the land.

Helen Gladstone House Garden

Our new drought tolerant garden, fronting on to Blackfriars Road, is maintained and loved by local residents from Nelson Square. Watch for the flowering fuschia hedge in summer.

Pattison House

Adjoining Red Cross Garden, we have been pleased to work with local residents to develop a new garden courtyard, and hedge for all to enjoy.

Scovell Estate

We have been surveying residents on the Scovell Estate for ideas and plans to improve the area. We have won Cleaner Greener Safer money for this project.
